Piscina Nacional | 2012  Then Again (2011-2012) In the early 1960's my mother was a Vedette, model, singer, dancer and actress in Cuba, then later on around the world. The resulting nostalgia (photographs, news clippings, stories, films) enveloped my childhood and has been a primary and endless source of inspiration for my work. I grew up thumbing through countless revistas featuring multi-page spreads of her, some of which even go so far as to refer to her beauty as the 8th wonder of the world.   For this series I travelled to Cuba in order to experience the locations where these images originated. By recreating iconic images of my mother from her early modeling career I seek out to personally connect to a distant part of her history while questioning broader relationships between past and present, parent and child, beauty and identity, culture, separation and age.
